Heng Bok is one of the very few authentic Korean Cuisine restaurant in Mumbai. This Restaurant is known for its Korean BBQ. The ambiance of the restaurant is simple and little bit based on Korean Concept. First the entrance of the Restaurant is decorated with handmade boxes of Korean Style, this boxes were usually used to carry food in Old Korean era. The Tables are more of like todays modern Korean furniture style. Half of the Table are fixed with a Gas stove in the centre for the live BBQ for your enjoyment. Besides that the walls are decorated with Paintings of Korean History and Culture, Also on display you can find Korean Toys and Cutlery.
When I was at the restaurant, I had Orders a Mixture of all the dishes for the Korean BBQ only. The concept of the Korean BBQ is that they serve your raw food depending on what you have ordered. Then a Gas grill is kept on your table where in you would have to cook / Grill the food. The cooked food can be eaten with a variety of Sides and Sauces provided to you. You can either mix everything and eat or else you can place the food on the lettuces leaves and eat it like a wrap.
The first dish I tried was the Belly Pulled Pork Strips. Along with the dish they Gave me Onions, Garlic and some Long green Chillies. I liked the Pork as it was very tender and juicy after cooking. I had tried it will almost 3 different sauces, but my suggestion would be to try is with the Korean BBQ sauce which is little sour and sweet perfect with the Pork strip. Next, I tried was the Basa fish marinated in a Spicy dressing which was fun to have it as a wrap with the lettuces leaves along with the Chinese Cabbage. Don’t try any sauce with the fish as it doesn’t go well with the taste. Next up were the Tentacles of the sea i.e. Squid and Octopus, The margination was the same but I could taste the difference of the meat. Squid was a little squishier whereas the Octopus was soft and juicy. Both tasted pretty good but went better with different sauce. The Squid tasted nicer with the BBQ sauce whereas the Octopus went good with the Sesame oil and both were good even with the lettuces leaves. The Chicken was also good but not the best for the Korean BBQ. I would suggest you to try the other options instead of chicken but you can always try it. Then I had the Prawns which was actually good with the spicy marination. This dish was amazing to have it like a wrap with the lettuces leaves along with Chinese cabbage and Sesame oil, Tender and crunchy. Whereas in the veg the only option in Korean BBQ was the Tofu along with Different types of Capsicum, Mushrooms and Broccoli. It was good but not that realising as the tofu is not something that goes good on BBQ, still a must try for once.
The deserts are something you should definitely try it cause you won’t find it anywhere else. Its not only unique but also very tasty and mouth-watering. I won’t recommend any Particular dish cause each dish as its own unique taste and presentation so try as much as possible.
